A group of twentysomethings wait tables to make ends meet in a New York restaurant, hoping to get that big break on film or in the theatre. At the centre of this group is aspiring playwright Chris (Adrien Brody) who uses his past to form the characters of his play. However, this method also brings back memories of a past love which begins to cause problems with his current girlfriend, Jeanine, and Chris finds he must rely on his friends to break from the past and get his life moving forward.
