Double bill of 1980s comedies starring Tom Hanks. In 'Turner and Hooch (1989), small-town police detective Turner (Hanks) finally runs across a real crime when an old sailor is murdered on a barge in the harbour. The only witness is the sailor's slobbering dog, Hooch. Turner takes the dog into his home, which the canine proceeds to wreck, but the unlikely team of man and dog gradually forge a strong crime-fighting bond. In 'Splash' (1984), New York vegetable wholesaler Allen Bauer (Hanks) meets and falls in love with the beautiful Madison (Daryl Hannah), but problems arise from her somewhat fishy behaviour. For Madison is actually a mermaid, and any contact with water returns her to her aquatic form. Her attempts to come to grips with life on terra ferma are further complicated by a group of government scientists, who are eager to reel her into their observation tank...
