A loose adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's novel 'Wuthering Heights', in which childhood sweethearts are separated and grow up in different worlds. Kamal (Madhubala) is brought up to be a 'pujaaran' (priestess), while Shankar (Dilip Kumar) grows up to be a dejected 'thakur', turned vindictive by life's injustices. When fate brings them back together at a later juncture, all seems happy and perfect for the young couple at last... until she discovers his deep, dark secret.
