Triple bill of hard-hitting dramas. The Academy Award-winning 'Million Dollar Baby' (2004) is directed by Clint Eastwood, who also stars. Frankie Dunn (Eastwood), a down-on-his-luck former boxing manager, runs a small gym in downtown Los Angeles. One day, Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) enters Frankie's gym and announces she needs a trainer. Frankie doesn't think much of women boxing and Maggie lacks experience and has no technique. However, she sees boxing as her one chance at a better life and won't give up easily. 'Brokeback Mountain' (2005) is directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ang Lee and stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger. Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963, and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection, one whose complications, joys, and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love. Both young men are certain of their set places in the heartland, obtaining steady work, marrying, and raising a family. Yet, they both hunger for something beyond what they can articulate. When Aguirre (Randy Quaid) dispatches them to work as sheepherders up on the majestic Brokeback Mountain, they gravitate towards camaraderie and then a deeper intimacy. 'Hotel Rwanda' (2004) is set during the Rwandan conflict of the 1990s. The Rwandan conflict of the 1990s marked one of the bloodiest chapters in recent African history. Over the course of 100 days, almost one million people were killed. The streets of the capital city of Kigali ran red with rivers of blood, but no one came to help: there was no international intervention in Rwanda, no expeditionary forces, no coalition of the willing. Amidst the horrendous violence and chaos that swept the country, one of the many heroes to emerge was Paul Rusesabagina (Don Cheadle), an ordinary man who, out of love and compassion, managed to save the lives of 1268 people. The manager of a hotel, Paul offered shelter to these refugees at considerable risk to his own safety.
