Triple bill of classic films starring Steve McQueen. 'The Great Escape' (1963) is set during World War Two. A collection of hardened Allied prisoners are kept in an 'escape-proof' German camp. Led by the 'Big X' (Richard Attenborough), the men formulate a plan for a mass breakout, digging three tunnels - Tom, Dick and Harry. The team behind the escape includes a near-blind forger of passports (Donald Pleasance), a claustrophobic tunnel-digger (Charles Bronson) and the independent American 'Cooler King' (Steve McQueen). With men like that on their side, how can they fail? Norman Jewison directs 'The Thomas Crown Affair' (1968), in which self-made property developer Thomas Crown (Steve McQueen) masterminds a successful billion-dollar bank job, even though he has no need of the money. Beautiful insurance investigator Vicky Anderson (Faye Dunaway) begins to look into the case and instinctively picks Crown out as the major suspect. Thus begins an intriguing cat-and-mouse game, with Crown treating Anderson to a fine old time - beach buggies, gliders, kinky chess games - as the pair try to simultaneously seduce and outwit each other. 'The Magnificent Seven' (1960) tells the story of a small Mexican village, which, when terrorised by the cutthroat Calvera (Eli Wallach) and his bandits, hires a team of seven mercenaries to expel the vile interloper. The seven are led by Chris (Yul Brynner), and they set about the job of training the terrified townfolk in the art of killing before meting out their own brand of justice. Director John Sturges' re-make of Akira Kurosawa's 'The Seven Samurai' cemented star-like qualities on most of its cast, including James Coburn, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and Robert Vaughn.
