When young horror fan Charley (William Ragsdale) discovers his next-door neighbour (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire, his mother and the police just think that he has watched too many horror films. In fact, the only person he can convince of his fears is the host of the horror television show 'Fright Night', Peter Vincent (Roddy Mcdowall). Thrown together under these strange circumstances, Charley and Peter must now team up and confront the bloodsucker.
