Four more episodes from the BBC's relaunched version of the television sci-fi classic, following the adventures of the Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) and his human assistant Rose (Billie Piper). In 'The Long Game', the Doctor and Rose, along with new companion Adam (Bruno Langley), find themselves on the news broadcasting Satellite 5, 200,000 years in the future. But why is their technology 100 years out of date, and why doesn't anyone promoted to level 500 ever return? As the team investigate, they begin to suspect the sinister Editor (Simon Pegg) is covering something up, and Adam reveals that he doesn't have what it takes to travel with the Doctor. In 'Father's Day', Rose asks to be taken back to 1987, the day her father Pete (Shaun Dingwall) died in a car accident. Against the Doctor's advice, Rose tries to save him, and in the process disrupts the time line. As alien creatures appear in the skies of London to sterilise the infected time line, the Doctor and Rose seek shelter in a church, and Pete makes the ultimate sacrifice to save the world. In 'The Empty Child (Part 1)' the time travellers arrive in London during the Blitz after chasing a mysterious craft. While the Doctor investigates a sinister gas-masked child that is attacking other homeless children on the bombed out streets of the city, Rose is rescued by the suave, charming Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), a Time Agent from the 50th century. Finally, in 'The Doctor Dances (Part 2)', Jack Harkness reveals the truth about the mysterious craft the TARDIS was chasing, and the Doctor realises that young Nancy (Florence Hoath) is the vital connection to the sinister infected child.
