In the middle of the desert outside Las Vegas, washed-up actor John Person (Jon Favreau) waits to deliver a suitcase to the mysterious Cowboy (Sean Bean) and collect a $27,000 payment. When Cowboy doesn't show, Person discovers that he's disappeared, and that the eccentric inhabitants of the nearby town of Baker are obsessed with the possibility of alien abduction. When local femme fatale Ruthie (Rachael Leigh Cook) starts turning the town against Person, and when an FBI agent (Kelsey Grammar) wants some answers about a decapitated neighbour, Person stumbles into a conspiracy that could be out of this world.
