Anthony Hopkins stars in this World War II drama as Chavel, a wealthy lawyer in a small French village, who is taken hostage by the Nazis and sentenced to death. Awaiting his execution, he meets another prisoner and convinces him to chage places, promising to pass on a fortune to the man's family after the war. After he escapes Chavel takes a position as caretaker at the home of the executed prisoner's sister, but he does not reveal his true identity. And then one day someone answering to the name Chavel turns up at the house...
