Action adventure based on the novel by Jules Verne set in 1860s Argentina. Kirk Douglas stars as Denton, an apprentice lighthouse keeper on a rocky island in the treacherous waters of Cape Horn. The lighthouse keeper (Fernando Rey) and his assistant leave the lighthouse to investigate when they become suspicious of a ship that has come in near their island - leaving Denton alone. They are promptly killed by pirates aboard the ship, and the pirate's captain, Kongre (Yul Brynner) heads for the lighthouse and seizes Denton. Kongre then instigates his cunning and malicious plan, shutting down the real lighthouse and creating a false light to lure unsuspecting ships into the clutches of his gang. Denton, banished by his captors to a nearby island, must singlehandedly find a way to stop them - and to save a beautiful shipwrecked maiden, Arabella (Samantha Eggar).
