A star-studded comedy/drama and directorial debut of comedy writer Larry Charles. Uncle Sweetheart (John Goodman) is a concert promoter with little scruples, Jack Fate (Bob Dylan) is a legendary rockstar who is currently serving time in prison. America has been caught up in a civil war that is tearing the nation apart, and Sweetheart decides the time is ripe for a benefit concert (the only beneficiary seemingly being Sweetheart himself), with Fate headlining. He hires a television producer, Nina Veronica (Jessica Lange), who manages to sell the rights worldwide, manages to get Fate out of jail and all seems to be going well until a canny journalist (Jeff Bridges) decides to ask a few too many questions.
