This Bob Hope collection contains four classic films and a documentary about Hope's life and work. In 'My Favourite Brunette' (1947), Ronnie Jackson (Hope) is a baby photographer who aspires to the life of the detective working in the office next door. Following a case of mistaken identity he gets the chance for some real sleuthing, charged with finding the missing Baron Montay. Immediately out of his depth, the wise-cracking Ronnie tries to track down the Baron in a gloomy mansion with the Baroness (Dorothy Lamour) at his side, and soon the two are in all sorts of trouble. In the musical comedy adventure 'Road to Rio' (1947) - the first in the sequence of 'Road' films - Scat Sweeney (Bing Crosby) and Hot Lips Burton (Hope) are on the run from the law as stowaways on an ocean liner bound for Rio de Janeiro. When they come to the rescue of beautiful heiress Lucia Maria de Andrade (Dorothy Lamour), they are surprised at her ungrateful reaction - until they realise she has been hypnotised by her scheming Aunt Catherine (Gale Sondergaard). 'Road to Bali' (1952) is the sixth entry of seven in the 'Road' movie series, and the only one made in Technicolor. Hope and Bing Crosby star as a music hall double-act who take jobs as deep-sea divers and then set sail for a crazy South Seas adventure, encountering cannibals, a giant squid, and the Princess McTavish (Dorothy Lamour) along the way. Jane Russell, Humphrey Bogart, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis also turn up in cameo roles. The comic whodunnit 'The Cat and the Canary' (1939) is the fifth remake of the original play. Seven relatives gather together on a stormy night, in an old dark house, for the reading of a will. Secret passages abound and things really do go bump in the night... Honor Blackman, Edward Fox and Wilfrid Hyde-White co-star. Finally, the documentary 'The Bob Hope Story' (1998) is a retrospective of the American funny man's long and varied career, from his early days in Vaudeville, through to his film career (including the 'Road' movies with Bing Crosby) and his many TV and radio broadcasts. Includes rare footage of his screen debut in the short 'Going Spanish', monologues from his Christmas specials, and a seldom seen appearance on 'Laugh In', as well as more well known clips from the likes of 'The Cat and the Canary', 'That Certain Feeling' and 'My Favourite Brunette'.
