Triple bill of America war films from the 1940s and 50s. In 'Battle Cry' (1954), adapted by Leon Uris from his own novel, a group of US Marines get fit, find love and go to war in WWII. Van Heflin plays their commander, Major Sam Huxley, who is trying to get his men the tough combat action they yearn for. 'Objective, Burma!' (1944) was considered so controversial at the time it was made that it took seven years for it to be released in Britain after it was completed. Captain Nelson (Errol Flynn) and his American troops land in Burma, dropping from the sky with parachutes on a mission to wipe out a Japanese radio station. Lots of action and the horrors of war in gruesome detail make for a fast-action-with-morals movie. John Wayne stars in 'Operation Pacific' (1951) as World War II Lieutenant Commander Duke Gifford, skipper of USS Thunderfish - who is dedicated to his navy command. However, as he leads a dangerous assault against the Japanese, he must battle his own inner demons: he is haunted by the death of his ex-commander, and guilt-stricken at the neglect of his wife (Patricia Neal), who waits onshore for his return.
