A tribute to the late John Thaw. In 'Inspector Morse: The Dead of Jericho' (1986), the first ever episode of the popular crime series, Chief Inspector Morse (Thaw) investigates the apparent suicide of a woman he was romantically interested in. When it transpires that the woman was pregnant, Morse suspects her former employer. But where does Sophocles come into it? In 'Goodnight Mister Tom' (1998) the outbreak of World War Two causes nine-year-old Willie Beech (Nick Robinson) to be evacuated from London and billeted with crotchety widower Tom Oakley (Thaw) in the village of Little Weirwold. Willie is a sad little boy who has not had a happy or easy life, but he and Tom gradually warm to each other, and a strong friendship develops between the pair. In 'Kavanagh QC: Nothing But the Truth' (1994) Thaw stars as James Kavanagh, a dedicated barrister who has worked his way up from a northern working class background to become one of the country's leading criminal advocates. His wife feels neglected because his work keeps him away from the family, so she begins an affair with another barrister, causing even more distress to the young family. On top of this, Kavanagh is involved in a difficult case defending a young student accused of raping a middle-aged housewife.
