Another story based on the casebooks of Joseph Bell (Ian Richardson), the real-life Victorian sleuth who was the inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Sherlock Holmes' character. Following the seeming suicide of a young woman and a related double murder the police call in Dr Joseph Bell for assistance. Politics soon get in the way of the case, however, when Bell calls in his pupil Arthur Conan Doyle to help solve the case. Doyle seems to side with the Chief of Police and for the first time Bell feels his grasp of the case slipping.
