Simon (Stanislav Merhar) lives in an expensive Paris apartment with his grandmother, his maid, and his girlfriend Ariane (Sylvie Testud). Fastidious and obsessive, he becomes convinced that Ariane is having an affair with her friend Andrée (Olivia Bonamy) and questions her about it insistently. But, despite his encouraging her to visit Andrée, Ariane soon feels that Simon's obsessive nature is turning her into his prisoner.
