A double bill of World War 2 aviation documentaries. 'Spitfire - Meeting the Threat' is a profile of the Supermarine Spitfire, the deadly killing machine designed by Reginald J. Mitchell in the 1930s. The Spitfire went on to prove its mettle against such powerful craft as the German Messerschmitt 109 between 1939 and 1945, particularly in the legendary Battle of Britain. Whilst 'Stuka - Whistling Death' is a profile of the Junkers JU87 'Sturzkampfflugzeug' dive bomber, or Stuka. Thought to be invincible by the Luftwaffe after its triumphs in Poland and France, the steep-diving Stuka's mettle was severely tested by the RAF in the Battle of Britain, and was consequently withdrawn from service in Western Europe.
