Sidney Lumet, the director 'Serpico' and 'Prince of the City', returns to the theme of police corruption in this his 40th film. When detective Liam Casey (Ian Holm) and his partner Joey Allegretto (James Gandolfini) arrest a major drug dealer, it is Liam's own son Sean (Andy Garcia), a freshly-appointed Manhattan attorney, who prosecutes the case. In the aftermath of the media publicity, Sean finds himself running for the DA's office, but is then urged to investigate allegations of police corruption in the case, allegations which point directly at his father.
